How I paint, crop, show, sell & ship my canvases.

How I paint

All of my work is painted on high quality primed canvas. I do not use stretchers, I paint directly on the canvas hung to a wall or on on my work tables. Each canvas is cut by hand and will vary in size - most canvases are 180x140 cm however because I rough-cut cut each by hand, every canvas size is unique. I also paint on each canvas from a number of directions, creating layers as I go along and more often than not I dont paint the canvas all the way to the edges, leaving room for cropping, stretching/mounting and framing.

How I crop

Once a painting is complete I then photograph it to be included in catalogues and online stores. I crop the painting the way I would like to see it - however when you buy one of my canvases you can crop it any way you want. I have had customers create diptychs and triptychs from a single canvas - I have also had customers that hung my canvases as tapestry adding an element of motion as airflow passes the canvas.

How I show

For many paintings I have also included a photo of the painting placed in a room (on the product pages or on hoover) - I believe that seeing a painting in a real indoor space gives you a realistic perspective of how the painting may look in real life - however please note that I am using stock photography to do this and am not really sizing each painting and space to scale. Always refer back to the documented sizes and you can always email me for the exact size of any canvas or we can set up a Zoom and I can show you the raw canvas.

How I sell & ship

When you buy one of my paintings you get the complete canvas, uncut, un-stretched and unframed. I do this predominantly because I like to work with the free canvas my way, and I dont like stretching the canvas before I paint it. I also do this because it is much easier and cheeper to ship my work around the world. When you buy one of my canvases I will mail it to you in a large tube, rolled on a pice of foam. As I mix many medias on my canvases, wear and tear and changes are expected as we handle and ship the canvases and every change will enhance the painting and add to it’s overall value. Shipping costs are not included in the cost of the painting and it will be completely up to you when you receive your painting, how you want to crop it, stretch or mount it, or not, and how you want to frame it.
