House 09 is the second in a series of dwellings I designed around a single piler, suspending the living spaces above ground and making it floodproof. The pillar is anchored underground where other spaces can be built, such as underground parking, a cellar, or a bunker for tornado protection.

This design, different than House 08, does not have a porch connecting each room module, in this design, the only outside space is connected to the observation tower. The entire deck is connected to the observation tower above the room-modules, and it can rotate around the tower manually or automatically to follow the sun. Again in this design, the center of the star connector serves as a large common space shared by all the room-modules. Another difference from House 08 is that the center pillar is made of thick glass instead of cement and houses an elevator that will move from the ground floor to the top of the observation tower.

All of these homes have a zero carbon footprint and be energy self-sufficient, using wind turbines and solar panels on the roof for all it’s energy requirements, augmented by hydro-turbines where access to moving water, like a stream if possible. All glass windows and panels have a slideout steal cover-panel that completely encases the glass area for 100% protection from the elements. Basically, if the weather is bad this dwelling becomes an impenetrable hardened facility.
